A window

Galeria nad Wisłą, Toruń
The project was inscribed into the exposition space of Galeria nad Wisłą (Gallery over the Vistula River) in Toruń. The work consisted in bricking up a window in the gallery, and subsequently suggesting its presence by installing a curtain rod with curtains. The gesture emphasises the context of the living space in which the gallery was created, blurring the borders between the private and the public. Despite the domesticating, home-making function of the curtains, the work disturbs the viewer. Seemingly, the installation provides us with a sense of safety only to take it away after a moment – with a window which is actually not there.
